Death penalty moratorium press conference

A coalition of individuals and groups across the state is calling for a stop to executions pending a review of the way death sentences are administered in the state. Among organizations making up the coalition are Alabama ARISE, Alabama New South Coalition, Amnesty International, Episcopal Task Force for Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation, Benedictines for Peace (Cullman), the Alabama Prison Project, the Southern Poverty Law Center, Birmingham Friends Meeting, Alabama CURE and 21st Century Youth Leadership Movement.
The group will hold a press conference on the Capitol steps (Dexter Avenue side) in Montgomery at noon on Friday, December 10. Senator Hank Sanders (D) of Selma and representatives of coalition groups will speak on the need for a moratorium on executions and outline legislation which will be introduced in the upcoming session of the Legislature.
