Send A Message: Vote NO on SB1

Join us in calling on Alabama lawmakers to vote NO for Senate Bill 1.

SB1 is voter suppression. We are committed to mitigating voter suppression by ensuring access to the ballot. This legislation would make it a felony for assistance to be provided in delivering and filling out absentee ballots or applications in most cases. SB1 will not allow voters to have a volunteer from a GOTV organization assist them in completing an absentee ballot application or an absentee ballot. With several organizations providing services to seniors, students, or people who are homebound, this bill prevents their work to ensure and expand access to the ballot. Criminalizing assistance that provides access to the voting process to others limits participation for Alabama’s most vulnerable citizens.

The ACLU of Alabama strongly opposes SB1. Criminalizing assistance in the voting process limits participation for Alabama’s most vulnerable citizens.

Vote NO on SB1

Please oppose Senate Bill 1. This legislation would make it a felony for assistance to be provided in delivering and filling out absentee ballots or applications in most cases.

All Alabamians should have equal and unburdened access to the ballot. SB1 is voter suppression.

I'm asking you to please vote NO on SB1 and protect the vote in Alabama. Lawmakers should be focused on increasing civic engagement, not making it harder to vote.

Sincerely,
