Today, the 2019 Alabama Legislative Session begins. We'll also be sending out these updates as weekly emails to keep you informed about what's happening in session and to share tips on how you can make a difference in the legislature. Sign up here.

Updates

  • After two engaging workshops in Montgomery and Huntsville, we are pleased to announce our third workshop, Legislative Action Meeting: Selma on Monday, March 18 at 5:30 p.m. with The Knights & Orchids Inc. and Southern Poverty Law Center. Find more info on Facebook.
  • We've looked through some of the pre-filed bills and identified a few of note. While we support some (like a bill requiring data collection for police transparency), we oppose others (like a bill allowing Bible classes in public schools). Learn more about these and other bills.

Actions

  • Look up your legislator. Make sure you know who your representatives are and how to contact them. Send them a message via social media, email, or mail to let them know what's important to you. Include a personal story if you can.

Pro-tip

  • Create a Google alert for an issue you're really interested in. Make sure your keywords are specific enough but not too specific. Examples: "civil asset forfeiture alabama" or "your legislator's name".
