2026 Communications Summer Internship

The Communications Department is responsible for the ACLU of Alabama’s external communications strategy to advance our priority issue areas: criminal legal reform, gender justice, voting rights, and First Amendment rights. We accomplish this by working with high-impact media, launching multimedia advocacy campaigns, releasing reports and research, and running the organization’s website and digital channels. The Communications Intern will help provide support across the communications department with content capturing and production, social post preparation, and event support.

Position Overview
This internship offers hands-on experience in social media management, content creation, event promotion, and community engagement. Interns will help promote events, support campaigns, and engage thousands of Alabamians through digital content.

This 8-week internship is a great opportunity for someone interested in social media content creation, videography, copywriting, and digital storytelling.

 

Location: Preference for Montgomery or Birmingham

Part-Time | Start Date: June 1, 2026

Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Capture high-quality video and photography at AL-ACLU events and for campaigns.
  • Create, edit, and publish video and photo content for use on social media and the AL-ACLU website.
  • Write social media captions that reflect AL-ACLU's voice, tone, and values.
  • Organize and maintain the digital media library, ensuring easy access to footage and photos.
  • Provide on-site support for events, including setup, breakdown, and real-time content capture.
  • Ensure release forms and necessary permissions are obtained for all subjects featured in productions.

Qualifications

  • Preference for a university student or candidate interested in communications
  • Interest in videography, social media, or content creation
  • Comfortable filming on a smartphone or camera
  • Basic video editing skills (CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, or similar tools are a plus)
  • Experience creating social media content (photo, video, captions, or graphics) for personal, academic, or professional use
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel across the state
  • Available to work on weekends
  • Creative mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
  • Adaptable, open to feedback, and eager to learn
