In this action, the State filed suit against the federal government over the resettlement of refugees in Alabama. We joined with other organizations to file an amicus brief in opposition to the State, arguing that Alabama's proposed bar on refugee resettlement is unconstitutional.
We joined with SPLC in submitting an amicus curiae brief in support of White’s petition for mandamus. We assert that a juvenile is eligible to be considered for youthful offender status regardless of the statutory basis for adult court jurisdiction.
In 2015, Gov. Bentley announced he was terminating its Medicaid contract with Planned Parenthood. Because the termination is not based upon the quality of non-abortion medical care provided by Planned Parenthood in Alabama, we alleged that the termination runs afoul of the Medicaid Act.
A pregnant inmate in Lauderdale County Jail wanted to get an abortion. The Sheriff and DA refused. We filed suit claiming that the refusal violated Jane Doe’s fundamental right to obtain an abortion and that the refusal further constituted cruel and unusual punishment.
The ACLU of Alabama with others filed an amicus brief arguing against the petition directing probate judges to not issue same-sex marriage licenses.
