ACLU of Alabama Argues at 11th Circuit in Abortion Methods Case

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and ACLU of Alabama presented arguments today at the 11th Circuit in West Alabama Women’s Center v. Miller, a case focusing on an Alabama state law prohibiting the use of dilation and evacuation (D&E), a medically-proven practice for performing abortions.

ACLU-AL responds to bill passing that would allow nitrogen gas for executions

Yesterday, the Alabama House voted to allow the use of nitrogen gas for executions and it now goes to the Governor for her review. This method, in theory, would asphyxiate inmates with the gas if lethal injection drugs were not available or if it was ruled unconstitutional for a particular prisoner.

Civil rights groups support lawsuit challenging Alabama's voter ID law

ACLU of Alabama, the ACLU Voting Rights Project, Lawyers’ Committee, and Campaign Legal Center submitted a brief in support of the appeal of a federal lawsuit challenging Alabama’s voter ID law that requires voters to obtain photo ID in order to vote.

ACLU Sues Alabama for Discrimination Against Transgender People

The ACLU and ACLU of Alabama filed a lawsuit today challenging Alabama’s policy of restricting access to driver’s licenses for transgender people that accurately reflect their gender identity. The lawsuit, Corbitt v. Taylor, was filed on behalf of three people who experienced this discrimination.
