MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A federal court issued a preliminary injunction tonight preventing the state of Alabama from using the guise of the COVID-19 crisis to prevent people from obtaining abortion care.

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Today, the Campaign for Smart Justice with the ACLU of Alabama released a new report revealing a severe backlog of people in Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) facilities who are eligible for parole but who have not had a hearing. 

MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- On Tuesday, Vice News reported that the Alabama Department of Public Health was sending the addresses (not names) of individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 to state law enforcement officials to reportedly protect first responders from exposure. 

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — A federal court issued an order tonight blocking the state of Alabama from using the guise of the COVID-19 crisis to prevent people from obtaining abortion care.

Alabama’s panhandling laws violate the First Amendment’s protection of freedom of speech, according to a lawsuit filed today seeking to immediately stop the city of Montgomery and Alabama from enforcing two state statutes prohibiting panhandling. 

Today, the ACLU of Alabama sent a second public records request to the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles (ABPP) asking for any policy that is guiding the bureau to schedule far fewer people for parole hearings.
