HB89 and SB102 - Presumptive Eligibility For Pregnancy Medicaid

  • Status: Active
  • Position: Support
  • Bill Number: 89
  • Session: 2025
  • Latest Update: January 28, 2025
The ACLU of Alabama supports this.

Background: Pregnant people who have not been formally approved for Medicaid coverage but who submit proof of pregnancy and household income information to a qualified provider can receive up to 60 days of prenatal care while they wait for their Medicaid to be formally approved.

Our Position: We support these companion bills. Presumptive eligibility is a valuable tool that helps ensure a healthy and safe pregnancy, which is crucial in Alabama, where the maternal mortality rate is the third worst in the country.
