Currently, municipal judges can jail people for minor violations and misdemeanors unless they can pay a monetary bail. This bill would remove cash bail requirements for people who are not considered a safety or flight risk. It would not change the requirements for crimes related to domestic violence or drunk driving.
The bill was unanimously voted for in committee and now awaits the full Senate. However, opposing sides have yet to find a compromise, so the bill will receive no further action this session.
