Today with our partners, we filed a motion for a preliminary injunction in Alabama State Conference of the NAACP et al. v. Marshall et al to pause the state of Alabama from criminalizing the assistance of voters with their absentee ballot applications.
The lawsuit filed today challenges SB 1 as violating the First and Fourteenth Amendments of the United States Constitution, Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act, and the Help America Vote Act of 2002.
We urge social media companies to devote resources to training, testing, and the development of procedures to address future media outages on election days.
Congress must act to expand the protections of the Voting Rights Act and restore the preclearance provisions for jurisdictions that persist in enacting discriminatory voting laws and districting schemes.
