Voting Rights of Alabamians are under attack, pushing more and more people out of the political process. It's time we do our part to defend them.
Voting Rights of Alabamians are under attack, pushing more and more people out of the political process. It's time we do our part to defend them. Introducing Project MOVE (Making Our Voices Echo)– the ACLU of Alabama's new voter outreach program aimed at building community, engaging new voters, and increasing voter turnout in specific districts and demographics across the state.
Project MOVE is dedicated to being in community, meeting potential voters where they are. You can find us in your neighborhood and all across the state making phone calls, knocking doors, and providing support to help MOVE Alabamians to the polls. Project MOVE isn’t just an election year project– it’s our long-term, multi-year strategy to make sure more Alabamians voices are heard. Sign up to join us here!
We've got ambitious plans to MOVE Alabamians to the polls. Check it out here.
Read all about Project MOVE's four pronged approach to getting Alabamians active and engaged in the political process here.
#1 COMMUNITY SURVEYING
To find out what Alabamians really need, we’re going straight to the source– ALABAMIANS.
We're surveying folks across the state to find out what truly matter to them and their community so we can better engage them AND meet their real needs. With phonebanks, tabling at events, and even knocking a few doors, we will speak to thousands of Alabamians about the issues that matter most to them. Join us to help MOVE fellow Alabamians to the polls!
#2 COMMUNITY CARE
If a person’s immediate needs aren’t being met, how can we expect them to tackle the systemic issues that plague their community– or even find the time to care?
In coalition with community partners, the ACLU of Alabama aims to provide community care through services like job fairs, food bank support, and health screenings. Throughout Project MOVE, we will also be hosting mock voting at high schools, doing HBCU visits, popping in barbershops, and working with faith communities to make civic enagement and learning more accesible.
#3 GET OUT THE VOTE
Seasoned campaigners know, you have to meet voters where they are! So we are utilizing traditional outreach methods like door knocking and phone calling– just without the candidate.
No matter their issue, we want to make sure folks know how, when, and why they should make their voice heard. Along with directly reaching out to voters via telephone and door knocking, we will be using our platform to share important election deadlines and rules.
#4 CONTINUED ENGAGEMENT
Politics don’t just happen during election years– politics are year round.
Project MOVE aims to build lasting connections with voters and communities that goes beyond election cycles. We won't just show up during election years to get votes like some politicians. We want to listen to our communities and truly be a help in getting their needs met and feeling heard.
