Background: Senate Bill 13 proposes an amendment to the Alabama Constitution that would protect individuals’ rights to make and carry out their own reproductive decisions. The bill would protect individuals’ rights to make decisions for themselves regarding contraception, fertility management, continuing one’s own pregnancy, miscarriage care, and abortion care. The bill further establishes that the state would not be able to interfere with an individual's right to make such decisions or those attempting to assist an individual in exercising those rights.

Our Position: We support SB13. The ACLU of Alabama is committed to protecting the reproductive rights of citizens here in Alabama. Following Alabama’s recent attacks on the reproductive rights of individuals in the state, it is time to allow the citizens of Alabama to vote directly on this issue and to have their voices heard.
